Teacher guide: how to create a video task in a topic and how to watch and grade students’ video (or audio) answers in the Video submissions view – with points or with the result Approved · Needs revision · Rejected.
Teacher app · video tasks
1 Where a video task is created
In a video task the student records a video or audio answer. The task is created in a course topic: open the course for editing → Topics, choose the topic’s 🎥 Video task card and press “+ Add video assignment”.
Course→Topic→🎥 Video task→+ Add video assignment
2 The video task fields
Fill in the task details and save the course. You can limit the length of the answer and choose whether it is a video or audio only.
A video task in the topic Extreme values: title, instructions, max duration, audio only, grading and max points, deadline and lock, plus View submissions, remove and move.
Title – the name of the video task.
Instructions for the student – an optional task prompt with a formatting bar (bold, lists, links, images); the student sees it formatted.
Max duration (s) – the maximum length of the answer in seconds (default 120).
🎙️ Audio only – the student records sound only, no picture.
Grading – Points (default) or Approved / rejected. An approved / rejected task is graded with the result Approved, Needs revision or Rejected (section 6); it adds no points, but an approved task counts towards course progress.
Max points – the maximum number of points for a points task. The field is hidden in an approved / rejected task.
Deadline + 🔒 Lock after deadline – prevents late submissions.
🗑 Remove video assignment and ↔ Move to another topic – the submissions stay with the task.
3 Viewing submissions
You can see the answers students have submitted in two ways:
📥 View submissions – on the video task card; opens the task’s list of submissions (time, duration, size and download).
Video submissions – a view in the Add tools menu with all video submissions by course and task, where they are also graded (sections 4–7).
4 The Video submissions view
The Video submissions view groups the submissions as course → task → submissions. The Status selection filters the list.
Video submissions (Status: All): the course, its video tasks with submission counts and max points, and the students’ submissions with status and result labels.
Submission row – student, submission time, duration, file size and 🎥 (video) or 🎙️ (audio).
Statuses – Pending (in the cloud, not downloaded) DownloadedProcessed (downloaded to the computer and removed from the cloud).
Result – Graded: N pts (points task), ↩ Needs revision, ✓ Approved or ✕ Rejected. The label is updated on the row as soon as you save.
Status filter – Pending (default) / Processed / All. ↻ Refresh fetches the list again.
5 Grading an answer
Clicking a submission row opens the assignment text, the player and the grading form. The form depends on the task’s grading mode: in a points task you give points and feedback, in an approved / rejected task you choose the result (section 6).
An opened submission: the assignment, the player on the left, points and feedback on the right. For an audio answer the player is an audio player.
Player – plays the video or (with “audio only”) the audio recording.
Points (max N) – out of the task’s maximum points, halves allowed.
Feedback – written feedback for the student.
A saved grade is shown on the row as Graded: N pts
6 Return for revision and approved / rejected
You can return an answer to the student for revision in both grading modes. In an approved / rejected task the points field is replaced by the buttons Approved · Needs revision · Rejected.
Return for revision (points task)
↩ Return for revision – write in the feedback what needs to be added or fixed (feedback is required). The answer gets the label ↩ Needs revision, and no points are saved for it.
The student can send a new answer, even if the task had already been graded. The new answer appears in the list as a row of its own (status Pending), and you grade it like any other. If the task is locked after the deadline and the deadline has passed, no new answer can be sent – move the deadline if needed.
Approved / rejected task
✓ Approved – no points; feedback is optional. An approved task counts towards course progress.
↩ Needs revision – works like Return for revision in a points task: feedback is required, and the student sends a new answer.
✕ Rejected – rejecting requires feedback (without it you see the message “Write feedback for the student first.”) and a confirmation. For a rejected task the student cannot send a new answer.
You can change the result later. Open the row again and choose a new result or give new points – for example, a rejected answer can be returned for revision if you agree on it with the student.
Note: all grading buttons (including Approved, Needs revision and Rejected) save the result and also download the video to your computer and remove it from the cloud, if it is still in the cloud (section 7).
7 Downloading and managing cloud storage
Videos take up cloud storage, so they are moved to the teacher’s computer and removed from the cloud. The grade is always kept, and a video downloaded to your computer can still be watched in the app after it has been removed from the cloud.
Automatic removal from the cloud: a video is removed from the cloud automatically when the submission has been graded – or at the latest within 30 days, even if it has not been graded. Downloading the video to your computer makes sure you can still watch it later.
The grading form: Save grade, download video & remove from cloud – or just download without grading.
💾 Save grade, download video & remove from cloud – saves the grade, saves the video to your computer and removes it from the cloud with one button. If the video is no longer in the cloud, the button is 💾 Save grade. Return for revision and the buttons of an approved / rejected task work the same way.
⬇️ Download video file & remove from cloud – download and removal only, without a grade.
A downloaded video removed from the cloud gets the status Processed. Once the video is on your computer, you can still watch it in the app from the local file.
Note: if the video has not been downloaded and has already been removed from the cloud (after grading or after 30 days), it can no longer be played – the player area shows “Video has already been removed from cloud.”. Points and feedback are always kept.
