Teacher guide: hold remote sessions (Zoom / Teams / Meet) for your course students and be available in a live chat. Both open from buttons in the app's top bar.
Teacher app · Real-time contact
1 Top bar buttons
Both features are in the row of buttons in the top right corner of the app, next to the backup button. The calendar icon (📅) opens Remote Sessions and the speech bubble icon (💬) opens Chat Reception.
Top bar buttons (excerpt): backup, speech bubble = Chat Reception, calendar = Remote Sessions, and games.
📅 Remote Sessions – schedule and share video meeting links (Zoom / Teams / Meet) with selected courses. Works like a calendar of support sessions or lectures.
💬 Chat Reception – opens a separate window where you are available in a real-time chat: students queue, and you talk with them one by one or as a group.
2 Remote sessions: creating one
📅 opens the Remote Sessions window. At the top is the Teacher name (shown to students; the app remembers it). On the New Session tab you fill in the session details and choose which courses it is shown on.
A filled-in New Session form: a weekly help session on Thursdays until 17 December, shown on the courses MAA6 and MAB6.
Title and Description – e.g. "Math support session" and a short topic.
Meeting link – a Zoom, Teams or Meet address. Zoom and Teams links are automatically opened in the web client.
Start time and Duration (min) – when the session starts and how long it lasts.
Recurrence – Does not repeat / Daily / Weekly / Every two weeks, plus a Repeat until date (shown when the session repeats).
Weekdays (weekly and every two weeks, new sessions only) – a separate recurring session is created for each selected day. If you select no days, the session repeats on the weekday of the start time.
Courses where this shows – choose at least one course; the session is shown to the students of these courses.
Save – creates the remote session (confirmation "Remote session saved"). Cancel clears the form.
Required: title, meeting link and at least one course – otherwise saving asks you to fill them in.
3 Remote sessions: the list and the student's view
On the Sessions tab you see the sessions you have created. Each has a status and action buttons.
The Sessions tab: service (ZOOM / TEAMS), status (VISIBLE / HIDDEN), time, duration, recurrence, description, courses and the Deactivate–Activate / Open link / Edit / Delete buttons.
Visible / Hidden – whether students can see the session. Deactivate / Activate switches the status.
Open link – opens the meeting link for you as well.
Edit / Delete – edit the details or delete the session.
What a remote session looks like to students
The course page in the student app: remote sessions are shown as rows under the course title (service, title, time, duration). A session in progress is a red LIVE row with a Join now button; upcoming ones have Join session (e.g. “starts in 10 min”, “Weekly”).
Student side: Students only see the remote sessions of the courses they have joined. They join a session in progress with the Join now button and an upcoming one with Join session. The link (Zoom / Teams / Google Meet / Webex) opens directly in the app.
4 Holding a chat reception
💬 opens a separate Chat Reception window. There you are available in a real-time chat: you start the reception, students join the queue, and you open the conversations one by one.
Chat reception in progress: on the left the controls, the queue (with the start of the preliminary message), scheduled receptions and open conversations; on the right a conversation as a tab, the image the student sent and the “✎ Edit & send back” button.
How the reception works
Teacher and Courses (Choose…) – the name is shown to students, and students on the courses you choose can join.
Start reception – sets you as "present". Students on the selected courses see this and can join the queue. Stop ends the reception.
In queue – students waiting to join (real name and student number, and the start of the preliminary message or “waiting…”). Open starts the conversation.
Scheduled – upcoming receptions; + New schedules a new one (topic, time, description, courses), ✎ edits. Students see a scheduled reception on their course.
Open conversations – ongoing chats; a click opens the conversation as a tab. End conversation closes it and deletes its messages.
Open group chat – one shared conversation for everyone at once.
Sounds on – notification sounds for new messages (and, with Sound also from the active chat, for the active chat too).
5 Chat tools and the student's view
Marking up images
A student can attach a screenshot from the student app to a message: they select an area of the screen, for example the task and their answer in the editor. Other images (files, or photos e.g. of a notebook) can't be sent to the chat. When the image has arrived, press “✎ Edit & send back” under it: you can draw instructions on the image and send it back – handy for showing the intermediate steps in maths. Clicking the image opens it large.
Send back – sends the image you marked up to the student.
The window also has an ⓘ Chat privacy notice. Chat reception follows the same data security as the rest of the app – messages are routed by student number.
What chat reception looks like to students
The course page in the student app during a reception: a LIVE row “(teacher) is in the chat”, the number of students queuing and the group chat status, and a Join chat button.
Student side: When you start the reception, students on the selected courses see the row “LIVE · (your name) is in the chat” and a Join chat button on their course page. When they join, they go into your queue. If the reception has been scheduled, the row says “Upcoming chat reception: (time)” and the topic.
