Teacher guide: the exam catalogue where you manage exams – editing, copying, activating and deleting – and add participants to an active exam and follow the status of their attempts.
Teacher app · Browse Exams
1 What Browse Exams is
The “Browse Exams” card in the navigation (Catalog) lists all the exams you have created. Here you manage exams and add participants to an active exam.
Browse Exams→Choose an exam→Activate→⚙ Details + participants
The big picture: Create Exam builds an exam, Task banks → Exam questions (formerly “Browse Questions”) contains the individual questions, and Browse Exams is where you manage finished exams.
2 The exam list
Exams are shown as cards. You can filter and sort them by name, date or status and search by name. Active exams stand out with a green background, and instead of Activate Exam their card has Update Exam and Deactivate Exam.
The exam catalogue: filtering, sorting and search, and the exam cards. The active exam (MAA6 Derivatives – course exam) has Update Exam and Deactivate Exam, the others Activate Exam. The settings icon (⚙) in the top right corner of a card opens the exam details.
Filter by – Name / Date / Status.
Sort order – ascending / descending.
Search by Exam Name – by exam name.
The card shows the time limit, total points and creation date.
3 Exam actions
Each exam card has these actions:
👁 Previewnew – opens a preview of the exam as the student sees it (without monitoring or saving). You can try the questions, and “Show correct answers” highlights the correct answers. Works for both active and inactive exams. See Exam preview.
Edit – opens the exam in the editor (questions and settings). The editor is titled Edit exam, a yellow banner shows the name of the exam being edited, and there are two save buttons: Save changes (overwrites the exam) and Save as a new exam (the old exam is kept). See Editing a saved exam. An active exam cannot be opened for editing.
Copy – makes a copy of the exam as the basis for a new one: the copy opens in the editor as a new exam, and saving it does not change the original exam or its questions.
Activate Exam / Deactivate Exam – makes the exam available to students or takes it out of use. Only an active exam can receive attempts and have participants added.
Update Exam – shown only for an active exam. Republishes the current exam content with the same exam ID without deactivating it. The app asks for confirmation (“Update published exam?”). Exam permissions (students the exam has been opened for) and attempts already submitted are kept.
Delete – deletes the exam.
⚙ (settings icon in the top right corner of the card) – opens the exam’s details, participants and statistics (requires an active exam).
Changing an active exam: an active exam cannot be opened in the editor (“An active exam cannot be edited.”). If you correct one of its questions in the exam question bank, push the correction to students by pressing Update Exam. Do not deactivate and reactivate the exam: deactivating removes the exam and any associated attempts that have not been saved locally, which is why the app asks for confirmation.
Note: the exam details and participants open only when the exam is active. Otherwise you see the message “The exam is not active. You cannot view its details.” – activate the exam first.
4 Exam details and status
The ⚙ button of an active exam opens the details view: general info, participant status, grade distribution, and buttons for going back to the exam list, to grading, to the printable version and to the preview.
The details of an active exam: the buttons (Back to Exams, Go to Review, Printable version, Preview), General info, Participant Status and the grade distribution (grades as bars).
Back to Exams – returns to the exam catalogue.
Go to Review – takes you to grading the exam’s attempts.
🖨️ Printable version – a printable version of the exam.
👁 Preview – opens the same preview as the button on the exam card.
General info – time limit, total points and creation time.
Participant Status – total participants, awaiting grading, not taken, graded.
Grade Distribution – a chart of the grades of the attempts.
5 Adding participants
On the right side of the same details view is the Participants panel. Here you add the students who may take the exam and follow their attempts.
The Participants panel: the input field (Name;student number), Add Participants and Import from Wilma list (PDF), status filters and search, and the participants with status icons and Remove Participant buttons.
Input format – enter a line in the format Name;Student number (e.g. Maija Meikäläinen;123456). You can add several lines at once.
Suggestions – as you type, the app suggests previously saved students.
Add Participants – saves the participants to the exam.
Import from Wilma list (PDF) – reads the participants from a list PDF saved from Wilma (you can choose several files); the app shows the students it read before adding them.
Statuses – each participant has a status icon: not taken, awaiting grading (submitted) or graded (medal). The checkboxes by the icons show or hide participants with that status, and the “Enter a name or student number” field filters the list.
Remove Participant – asks how to delete: Delete Evaluation, Delete Answers or Delete Exam from User.
Participants can be added only to an active exam. The students you have added can then start the exam with their own student number.
